FAQs

1. What is LucidPapers?
An editing service for authors of scientific journal papers and other scholarly articles, as well as scientific publishers.

2. Why should I consider using this service?
If you are an author, because clear and well-written manuscripts have a much better chance of making it through the peer review process. If you are a publisher, because we provide quality copyediting for a competitive price.

3. Do you only edit journal articles?
No. We will also edit conference papers, book chapters, or research reports. Books or theses can also be considered, but the turnaround time and price would need to be negotiated individually.

4. How long will it take?
Our maximum turnaround time is 5-7 business days, and we rarely stray from that. Sometimes, if the editor assigned to your manuscript is particularly busy, we may need longer. If this is the case we will tell you at the time of the quote, and you are under no obligation to proceed if you need a faster turnaround time.

5. What is the cost?
You can either pay-as-you-go, in which case the basic charge is £0.040 per word (see the Pricing section for more information), or you can receive a 20% discount by opening a prepaid account under our subscription model; again, see the Pricing section for more information.

6. How do I pay?
Payment can be made by credit/debit card (processed by PayPal), or by international bank transfer. For China-based customers, we can also take payment (in CNY) via WeChat or Alipay; plus, one of the credit card options is UnionPay.

7. Do I need a PayPal account?
No, you can make secure credit/debit card payments via PayPal without opening an account. Simply follow the instructions in the invoice you receive.

8. What kind of things do you check for/edit?
Have a look at our Method section for more information on this.

9. Who does the editing?
All work is handled by a team of editors, all with academic backgrounds in the environmental sciences. Each editor has undertaken formal training in scientific/technical editing and proofreading, and some have also worked in the academic publishing industry. As well as carrying out a considerable amount of the editing himself in certain subject areas, all work by other members of the editorial team is quality-checked by the Chief Editor, Colin Smith, who is also the founder and owner of LucidPapers.

10. Do you take papers in all subject areas? No. We focus on the earth, environmental and natural sciences only. More specific information is available here.
